PYROPHYLLITE

Pyrophyllite is a phyllosilicate mineral formed of aluminum silicate hydroxide: Al2SiO10(OH)2. It occurs in two or less distinct varieties, namely, as crystalline folia and as compact masses; distinct crystals are not known. Pyrophyllite occurs in Phyllite and Schistose rocks, frequently associated with Kyanite, of which it is an alteration product.

PROPERTIES:

  • Pyrophyllite has an abundance of alumina, which makes it extremely heat resistant and convenient for use in refractories and in the manufacture of ceramics,

  • It additionally has excellent thermal shock resistance that is preferred in the manufacture of ceramics.

APPLICATIONS:

  • It is used as a minor embellishing stone for carvings and sculptures,

  • The main usage of pyrophyllite is as a carrier for insectoids and is used as padding in these products,
